♥ Welcome to the World of Magnifica ♥
Over time I hope to expand the Wiki into a knowledge base, and the Projects into a collection of designs and patterns which celebrate our cultural diversity and innate creativity.
All final designs are entirely freehand drawings, without using rulers or repeating patterns with a computer program, and many of them are original size. They may not be as “perfect” as computerized drawings, and often they don’t turn out mathematically exact, but it gives them the feel of an original. It also makes it easier for you to add lines, patterns and ornaments of your own before you start colouring in.
Right now at the beginning, most of the designs are rather geometric or abstract. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be any flowers, birds or butterflies, or even mythical or whimsical creatures. It only shows that at the moment I’m fascinated with the possibilities that these seemingly straightforward designs and patterns offer.
I’m rather tempted to fill them with details, but I also want to encourage you to change things, not to take them as they are. So before you lay aside a design as “too boring” or “too simple”, why not try this:
Take a black pen or fineliner and add something of yourself to the design.
- Double up some lines or reinforce them.
- Add ornaments and embellishments
- Fill shapes with patterns or mini doodles.
- Draw a fancy frame around them.
- Tile them and connect them by drawing some “grouting” between them.
There are zillions of possibilities, even before you start colouring in!
And if you’re into tangles, use the lines as starters or strings.

Or take a design and turn it into something else, like an embroidery pattern, a quilt, a stained glass window, a rug, a jumper… If you’re into certain crafts, you’ll recognise those designs because they will “talk” to you.
Talking of talking…
Just like the real world, Magnifica is whatever its population – that is you – makes it. Communication is not a one way street; it’s your contributions that will help me shape and grow Magnifica into a world you’d like to
